Clinical Visits Programme

The Clinical Visits Programme (CVP) consists of five visits to different clinical services including health assessment and Chinese medicine clinics in the first two years of the MBBS curriculum. The aims are to enable students to have an overview of the health care services in Hong Kong, especially those related to primary care, and to have early contact with patients to make classroom learning more relevant. Family Medicine Junior Clerkship

This is an introduction to the principles and concepts of Family Medicine, and primary care consultation skills in the third year of the MBBS curriculum. Emphasis is put on the learning of the nature of the doctor-patient relationship and its therapeutic potentials, whole-person care, and the hypothetical-deductive problem solving method.

Family Medicine Specialty Clerkship

This is an intensive clerkship in the 4th to 5th year of the MBBS curriculum that emphasizes experiential learning through tutorials, supervised consultations, and placements in community family medicine clinics. The aims are to enable students to apply their knowledge and clinical skills to solve patients' problems in primary care, to role-model after family physicians, and to be able to diagnose and manage the most common health problems in the community.

Primary Care Programme in other Specialty Clerkships

The Primary Care Programme in the 4th to 5th year aims at enabling students to learn about the integration of primary and secondary care. Each student has five half-day sessions during each of the six specialty clerkships in primary or ambulatory care settings related to the relevant specialty.

Clinical Interpersonal Skills Programme (CIPS)

CIPS consists of 10 sessions in the 2nd year and 4 sessions in the 4th year of the MBBS curriculum, which aims to train students to master the CIPS of consultations from history taking to counselling patients with chronic or serious diseases, and to develop professionalism and a patient-centered attitude. The programme uses a variety of methods including seminars, review of video-taped consultations and role play.
